The Lonely Island to Build a Funnier, FOX-ier Future

The Lonely Island, consisting of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, sealed a multi-year deal on Monday, Jan. 13 to partner with FOX to create "the next generation of comedy hits," said FOX Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly. The guys will help develop new comedy projects for FOX, FX, FXX or even other networks by first testing the material via digital sources such as Hulu and Roku. Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Over the years, The Lonely Island has seen a lot of success with their digital shorts including hits such as "YOLO" (#27 of Rolling Stone's Top 100 Songs of 2013) and "D**k in a Box." Their most recent release, The Wack Album, debuted at #10 on the Billboard 200 chart in June 2013.

And this is just one more feather in Andy's already full cap. With Brooklyn Nine-Nine already receiving a full 22-episode first season & the post-Super Bowl spot, his two Golden Globe wins (Best Actor in a TV Comedy and Brooklyn99's win for Best TV Comedy), and the count down until FOX announces Brooklyn99's second season, he proves that Saturday Night Live was just his stepping stone to bigger and better things.
